Marine Environmental Monitoring & Pollution Drift Visualization
A map-based view of changing marine conditions, pollution movement and the field records behind them.
Marine conditions rarely arrive as one tidy dataset. Wind, currents, waves and sea temperature are measured in different ways and across different times. Opening each source separately tells part of the story, but makes it difficult to understand what is happening in a particular area.
This WebGIS application brings those environmental fields into a shared map and time-based interface. Users can explore different layers, move through time and connect the changing conditions with pollution areas, inspection routes and relevant records.
Pollution movement is especially visual. A drawn area has meaning at a particular time, but seeing how it changes over a sequence of observations tells a more useful story. The application combines area drawing, drift views and a timeline so the changing picture remains connected.
The source data also required geographic care. Some NetCDF fields covered rectangular regions that included both land and sea. Filtering unsuitable data points against mainland polygons helped keep the marine visualization aligned with where that data belonged.
Inspection routes, images, videos and reports sit alongside the spatial information rather than in a separate world. Moving from a trend on the map to supporting field material becomes a natural part of the workflow.
For marine operations and environmental monitoring, the larger value is turning technical data into something people can explore and discuss. A useful visualization does not merely display measurements; it helps put them in context.
